ASR Subcommittee
The ASR Subcommittee is a select work group from the Columbia Basin Sustainable Water Coalition Board working specifically on evaluating the regulatory framework for Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) in Washington State. The Subcommittee’s goal is to identify elements of the regulatory framework that may be improved to make ASR more feasible for municipalities across the state to implement, while also remaining protective of environmental and human health. They will then engage with relevant stakeholders and policymakers to gain support for those regulatory improvements.
About Aquifer Storage and Recovery
Aquifer Storage & Recovery (ASR) is recognized as a useful and environmentally low impact water supply management tool to help provide resilient and dependable water supply for communities. Some of the Coalition’s member municipalities see ASR as a high priority and have begun the feasibility planning and permitting process. However, based on the experience of other municipalities in Washington State, the permitting process for ASR in Washington can seem overburdensome. The Coalition is taking the lead on making ASR more feasible to implement in Washington State. We’re doing that by engaging with stakeholders to gather perspectives and providing policy recommendations to the state’s elected and appointed leadership.
